About the Superintendent
Dr. Sara Magaña Shubel, the Superintendent of East Grand Rapids Public Schools since 2006, works in collaboration with the Board of Education and administrative staff in establishing the goals and priorities for the district. Dr. Shubel is a graduate of Michigan State University and holds a doctorate degree in educational administration. Prior to her current position as the Superintendent, Dr. Shubel worked as Director of School Development Services for Ingham Intermediate School District, an educational service agency that provides instructional support and services for 20 school districts in Ingham County. Dr. Shubel has also worked as an education consultant for the Michigan Department of Education, and as an elementary school teacher. Judie Malec serves as her Executive Assistant.
