PHILOSOPHY
Music is a basic form of human expression. As a universal
language, it enriches the understanding of all cultures. Therefore, every
student must experience a balanced, sequential program of music education that
develops and embraces musical expression and literacy.
MISSION STATEMENT
The Music Department of East
Grand Rapids Schools is
committed to enriching students' lives through comprehensive and
required music
education. We will nurture in each student the development of musical
talents,
skills, and knowledge by offering choral, instrumental, and appreciation
curricula. Through a variety of performance and learning opportunities,
we will foster team work, growth in self-esteem, community
responsibility, respect for all cultures, and a life-long recognition of
the intrinsic worth of music in the human experience.
