Learner Outcomes were introduced in the 1993 Strategic Plan. They are the culminating skills and abilities that we expect of each graduate of East Grand Rapids Public Schools. These outcomes are embedded in rigorous academic programs and learning activities to ensure that our students are prepared for success in the global community. The Learner Outcomes must be a fluid list that reflects our changing world. Therefore, the 2004-2008 Strategic Plan embraces this revision of the East Grand Rapids Public Schools’ Learner Outcomes.

Learner Outcomes
1. EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATOR

• understands the value of listening
• expresses ideas, opinions, and feelings clearly with diverse audiences using a variety of mediums and purposes

2. RESPONSIBLE CITIZEN

• understands civic rights and obligations
• strengthens democracy through community service
• demonstrates trustworthiness, honesty, and respect

3. SELF-DIRECTED LEARNER

• understands personal readiness, interests, and learning style
• shares in the responsibility to design his/her own learning
• evaluates and adjusts performance

4. COOPERATIVE CONTRIBUTOR

• works collaboratively within a team
• fulfills commitments
• honors the decisions of the group

5. CREATIVE PRODUCER

• generates ideas and questions
• uncovers new directions
• works toward originality and quality

6. CRITICAL THINKER

• identifies and analyzes information
• predicts outcomes
• defends conclusions

7. CULTURALLY COMPETENT INDIVIDUAL

• understands his/her own culture
• demonstrates knowledge of and an openness to many cultures
• discourages prejudice and stereotyping
• grasps that there are many perspectives

• understands the concept that technology is a mode of uncovering knowledge
