Mathematics
Our approach to K-12 math is designed to promote reflective thinking, encouraging students to explore mathematical concepts through visual and analytical approaches. We emphasize the importance of perseverance and problem-solving, guiding students to develop strong fact fluency and a deep understanding of mathematical principles ranging from subitizing to functions to personal finance.
Grades K-5 utilize the resource Bridges in Mathematics which incorporates visual models that build on one another across the grade levels. Learning is inquiry-based and student-centered while focusing on mathematical reasoning. In grades 6-8, courses are taught using Illustrative Mathematics. This curriculum focuses on helping students develop critical thinking and reasoning skills. It is characterized by problem-based learning and student-driven discourse, with an emphasis on depth and mathematical literacy. Resources in grades 9-12 vary by course and include multiple academic pathways with Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and Essentials course offerings that meet the needs of every mathematician.
