Social Studies
The Social Studies department is committed to fostering a dynamic learning environment wherein students cultivate essential skills such as critical thinking, proficient writing, effective research, engaging discussion, and comprehensive reading. Our aim is to empower students to construct a robust foundation of knowledge, cultivate a heightened awareness, nurture intellectual curiosity, and foster an understanding and appreciation for diversity. Through these skills, we endeavor to shape students into independent thinkers and lifelong learners who possess the ability to cogently present arguments, articulate their ideas, and thoughtfully consider local, state, national, and global issues spanning the past, present, and future.
At the elementary level, our resources are designed to foster Cross Cultural Competency and Core Democratic Values. Students learn to appreciate different cultures and perspectives while developing a strong sense of empathy and social responsibility. Our TCi curriculum emphasizes fairness, justice, and community, instilling foundational democratic principles in our young learners. At the secondary level, courses include World History, History of the Americas, Government, Economics, and Psychology. A diverse range of standard, AP, and IB offerings allows students to explore our past, present, and potential future from a variety of perspectives.
