Visual and Performing Arts

As a Visual and Performing Arts Department, we passionately believe in nurturing the inherent potential of every student, fostering their personal growth and self-expression through art. We recognize the arts as a catalyst for refining skills, enhancing creative problem-solving abilities, stimulating higher-order thinking, and nurturing empathy. Through the artistic process, students interpret life experiences, cultivating their identities and sense of self-worth. At the secondary level, students can expand their learning based on their interests by taking various courses including performing ensembles, theater productions, music theory, photography, sculpting, or designing and engineering.

K-12 Visual and Performing Arts learning aligns with the Michigan Merit Curriculum standards, benchmarks, and grade-level content expectations, offering a comprehensive education in artistic expression. Emphasizing hands-on learning and creativity, the program cultivates critical thinking, collaboration, and cultural appreciation. By integrating these standards, we inspire students to excel in the arts and contribute creatively to their communities. Our approach prioritizes the journey of creation over the final product, encouraging individuality and celebrating each student's unique perspective. We provide a supportive environment where students can explore, experiment, and develop their artistic voices, empowering them to embrace creativity and appreciate the arts throughout their lives.
