World Languages
East Grand Rapids Public Schools is proud to have a K-12 World Language program. We believe that to thrive in our interconnected world, we must acquire the ability to understand and be understood in the languages of the worldwide neighborhood. Competence in more than one language and culture enables people to participate in a global community and have a deeper understanding of diverse perspectives. Through immersive and engaging instruction, we foster linguistic proficiency and cultural literacy, allowing students to benefit academically, socially, and professionally. By developing these skills, our students are empowered to connect meaningfully with others, appreciate the richness of global diversity, and navigate the complexities of our multicultural world with confidence and empathy.
Our World Languages program emphasizes the national standards of proficiency and cultural understanding through the world’s communities, comparisons, connections, cultures, and communication. At the high school level, students can continue their learning of Spanish or explore a new language such as Latin or French. Each offers opportunities to explore diverse linguistic and cultural landscapes.
